Catching Up With The Lawsuits

New Album In The Works!!

Brian Dale Allen Strouse and the Lawsuits were up to their usual shenanigans making music like rabbits fornicate, all the time.  After two EP's in 2012 with the summer party Hot Love and the chill Numbers it was time to take the expected leap into the Philadelphia upper echelon.  To get there, the Lawsuits worked with Bill Moriarty at Waking Studios (Dr. Dog, Joshua James, Don McCloskey) and had mastering by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Garbage, Beastie Boys, etc.).

Brian Dale Allen Strouse, a producer himeself, was happy to let go of the reins.  "Bill Moriarty didn't try to sell us on his equipment or his records.  He really cared as a friend throughout the process."

Eleven new tracks made the complete journey from Brian Dale Allen Strouse's head to the final mixing station.  Some expected tracks, such as 'Ebony Rose' or 'French Roast', which had been in set lists for almost a year now did not make the cut!  Instead a new round of classics emerged.  Keep your eyes and ears open for a chance to experience this new material.   'Dreaming #26' made its debut at the Grandchildren CD release show at Johnny Brenda's while 'Onion' was debuted on WXPN's the Key!

Boston Marathon Benefit Show

Road Trippin'
On a recent Friday night in Rhode Island, the Lawsuits found themselves doing what the rest of America was; watching the news figuring out what was going to happen in Boston.  The two morons, who had the bright idea to piss off people that think running 26 miles is fun, were being pursued intently by the authorities.  The next night, their upcoming show in Boston was likely to be cancelled with the city on a lock down, while their expected show partners for the Friday night couldn't make it out of Boston.
We all know the outcome for the two morons, but for the Lawsuits the idea of not getting to play Boston at all turned into the best of situations.  Their show with Brothers McCann and Doom Lover on Saturday night became a benefit for The 1 Fund.  Bostonians were ready to get out and let loose, and The Lawsuits were ready to apply their healing powers of music while getting to show off their wares to the sold out crowd.

 Grandchildren Release show @Johnny Brenda's

Considering the reception The Lawsuits received last Friday at Johnny Brenda's while on the bill for Grandchildren, I can only imagine how insane the crowd will be when Cool Cool Cool is released show.   The Philadelphia band played 7 songs from the upcoming album, including my favorite 'Ten Cent Piece', their Wilco-ish American roots rock number.

'Dreaming #26', played for the first time was perfect.  If it was this incredible the first time, I can't fathom how great their live shows will be ending with their vocal harmonies.
Longtime favorite, 'Someone Else's Blues' was absolutely crushed, making sure the crowd knew for sure these guys were bona fide rock stars.

The best tease from the upcoming Cool Cool Cool was definitely 'You Won't Love Me If You Don't'.  Vanessa Winters has impressed many with her vocals in the past, but this by far was her best match for her vocals yet.

Sofar Sounds: Philly - May 2013

The Lawsuits have been an important band for many people in the scene.  For Root Down In The Shadow, they have been the impetus to cover local bands.  For Sofar Sounds: Philadelphia, they played their first show.  With Tri State Indie, they have been an award winner and had their EP debuted last year!  To bring it all together, the Lawsuits played the May, Sofar Sounds show @ Tri State Indie HQ.

Premier Single : Birds Over Arkansas "Forgotten Lights"

Philly/CT band  Birds Over Arkansas ' is currently recording their full length release as a follow up to their 2014  Behind The Lights  EP.  Root Down In The Shadow is proud to debut the first single from this release, "Forgotten Lights." "Forgotten Lights" was first teased in an exclusive release for a RDITS house show in March featuring BOA , Kevin Killen , Chelsea Mitchell , and Max García Conover . Finally ready for the masses, "Forgotten Lights" is helplessly watching a loved one slip away into dementia. The song starts as a mellow Americana groove, and the split at the outro introduces the progressive rock elements to bring in the lyric "the flame blew out again." This was the pivotal point in the lyrics, signifying the change from someone who was slowly losing their faculties who has now seemingly become a different person. The switch from the easy, mellow groove to the frenetic time signature embodies this. Scott Haskitt - ...

Root Down Is A Sometime Thing...

From the desk of Root Down: Greetings Friends!  It's been a bit, how've ya been? What's new? I've been gone for some time and I feel that I owe everyone an explanation of where I've been.   Honestly, I haven't gone anywhere. Since I've last posted, I've still been frequenting my favorite record store, been hitting up local shows, hosted a few house shows, traveling for special shows, and making music a large part of my life.  What I haven't been doing is losing countless hours fretting over knowing every new artist, tweeting, and losing sleep editing articles that spend less time getting read than I spent writing.  I can definitively tell you that I'm DONE attempting to make Root Down In The Shadow "a thing" in the music world.   I don't need Twitter followers, a lively blog, or anyone else's validation to share my love for music. It doesn't help my enjoyment of music to follow a shit-ton of bands on eve...

New Release Q&A - Sonja Sofya answers some questions for "Patterns We Know"

The buzz has been all about Sonja Sofya and her new album The Patterns We Know .  Tonight Sonja Sofya and band take to the stage at Boot & Saddle in South Philly along with a great line-up featuring Arc Divers and the dove and the wolf. Right off the top we have some great reasons to expect great things from this album, such as produced by Ross Bellenoit at Turtle Studios and excellent musicianship by guitarist/producer Ross Bellenoit, bassist Jonathan Colman , and drummers Matt Scarano and Jonas Oesterle . But we at Root Down In The Shadow wanted to dig further and see what Sonja had to say about the album. Here's 3 questions we had for the songstress Sonja Sofya: RDITS: What was the impetus to make a full length record and why did you pick the people you worked with? At a certain point, playing and writing as much as I was, it felt like the logical next step, but I waited for a while, trying to find the "perfect" time to go into the stud...
